Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
Soaking the cut sweet potato fries in cold water for 20 minutes before cooking is what draws out surface starch, giving a noticeably crispier exterior instead of the soft, slightly gummy texture unsoaked fries develop.

Ingredients
- 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into thin fries
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- salt to taste
Method
- 1
Cut the sweet potatoes into thin, even fries.
- 2
Submerge the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let soak for 20 minutes — this soak draws excess surface starch out of the potato, which is what gives the finished fries a noticeably crispier exterior; unsoaked fries tend to develop a softer, slightly gummy texture instead.
- 3
Drain the fries and pat them completely dry with a towel, then toss with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt.
- 4
Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
- 5
Air fry at 400°F for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crispy and golden.
