Golden Turmeric Smoothie

Adding a pinch of black pepper along with the turmeric is what significantly increases how much of its beneficial curcumin compound the body can actually absorb, since piperine in pepper blocks the liver from breaking it down too quickly.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 1 cup canned coconut milk
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp allulose (optional)

Method

  1. 1

Add coconut milk, turmeric, and a pinch of black pepper to the blender — pairing black pepper with turmeric like this is what significantly increases how much curcumin, turmeric's beneficial compound, the body can actually absorb; the piperine in black pepper slows down how quickly the liver breaks curcumin apart, so more of it stays active.

  2. 2

Add ginger, cinnamon, and allulose if using.

  3. 3

    Add the frozen banana slices.

  4. 4

Blend on high until completely smooth and creamy.

  5. 5

Pour into a glass and serve immediately.
